BDE, a company of 30 people is located in France, approximately 50km south of Paris. Created 20 years ago the company has an annual turnover of €3m.
BDE works 50% of its time as a sub-contractor for interior design companies and the remaining 50% of its time in direct with endusers for the complete fabrication of furniture designed by designers or architects. The company works mainly with joiners/cabinetmakers and produces tailor-made furniture for large companies. BDE is well known in the Parisian region for its high quality custom-built, competitively priced furniture. The company’s machinery is very impressive and is equipped with the latest numerically controlled machines from IMA which enable small and medium sized production runs.
BDE purchased TopSolid’Wood at the beginning of 2002. The possibility to create its own components as well as the easy transfer of data are 2 important strong points of the software for the company. “The design and creation options at our disposition with TopSolid are very impressive and allow us to realize projects which we were previously unable do” declares Olivier Poixdau, Responsible of the Engineering & Research Dpt at BDE. In addition, the creation of all BDE standard procedures as TopSolid intelligent components (with their associated procedures) has allowed us make significant time gains in our everyday activities – and all of this is directly linked to the workshop (Automatic, quick layout and the automatic generation of tool paths).
BDE increasingly uses material other than wood, such as plastic and metal, in its furniture. “We supply tailor-made furniture to our customers which increasingly implies the use of different materials. TopSolid’s unfolding/sheet metal functions helps us to manage this trend which is becoming more commonplace for us.” adds Olivier Poixdau. In order to succeed in the interior design market players need to be open to trends such as the use of materials other than wood in the creation of furniture. The integrated range from TopSolid (sheet metal, plastics, mechanical engineering, wood …) gives BDE the opportunity to adapt to such trends and facilitates the communication process between companies and sub-contractors in different sectors. “As many companies we work with use TopSolid as well, even those involved in sheet metal, mechanical engineering, etc. our work and communication is greatly facilitated” according to Olivier Poixdau.
