In 1996 Max RAZ opened the KINGCAT shipyard to design and manufacture a 21 metre catamaran capable of travelling at a speed of 40 knots per hour. The first hull was created in 1997. Parallel to this, the shipyard was also working on a contract basis for such boats as J BOATS J80, J105, J109 and J120. The J Boats are sail boats (both for competition and pleasure purposes) which combine comfort, stability, performance and ease of navigation. The finished boats are high quality products, offer top class equipment and more than 200 per year are produced by the KINGCAT.

At this time Mr. Palvadeau, head of the Research Department, choose the TopSolid CAD solution together with its wood module to manage all design and interior design aspects. Well known in the nautical world, Mr. Palvadeau’s training as a carpenter/cabinet maker in addition to his professional background led him to work in such shipyards as BENETAU, KIRIE, BOISTECH (where de designed the interior of DOUCE FRANCE) and finally in J EUROPE.

The J133, older brother of the J109 in the J145 range, is a 43’ designed in the “J BOATS spirit” and is already recognized as the new reference outside the Atlantic (“Best Performance Cruiser” by Cruising World 2004 and “Overall Boat of the Year” by Sailing World 2004. It was designed and manufactured in its entirety in France to meet the highest standards, the J133 is available with 2 or 3 cabins and the interior can be in wood or in a wood/white ceramic combination.

The European version of the J133 was completely modelled using TopSolid from files imported from the USA. Mr. Palvadeau, who worked on the project, feels he gained a lot of time by using TopSolid “I choose TopSolid’Design as it is a complete software designed to meet the needs of specific professions. TopSolid has greatly improved the quality of my projects and its integrated functions allow me to manage the planning of the boat in a more simple and realistic manner.” In conclusion, Mr. Palvadeau states “I take a real pleasure in working with TopSolid.”
