In 1973 in the Sables d’Olonne in France, Yves Roucher and 2 friends completed a 7.5 metre racing boat with bilges, in plywood and the roof made of aluminium. 1978 brought about a change of course with the shipyard changing base to the Château d’Olonne. In this same year Yves Roucher met Philippe Briand. Their ensuing collaboration resulted in the production of Sonate/Ovni 28, a centerboarder with double bilges made entirely of aluminium.
With the addition of Philippe Aupinel on board, Alubat now has a staff of 120 and is considered a leader on the European market. The Alubat product portfolio includes the CIGALES, technical and racing boats, and the well known OVNI boats. The most recent of the OVNI series of integral racing boats is the OVNI 395 which will be presented at the Salon Nautique in Paris. This most recent development by Mr. Briand, which replaces the 385, is wider and higher than its predecessor. Differing interior design variations of the 385 are available. The interior wood work was carried out by an interior designer who works in close collaboration with the shipyard.
The Research and Engineering Department at Alubat has been using TopSolid since 2003. TopSolid enables Alubat to design all cabins in 3D, special parts (reservoirs, special seating …) and in the future all boat accommodations. Alubat continues its innovative work with the completion of the new 58’. Le A58 (name of the new 58’) is the first large boat produced by the shipyard. The boat is made entirely of aluminium, is a racing boat, boasting a high level of comfort and an unequalled collection of equipment aboard. The boat demonstrates the highest quality of joinery work.
