TopSolid'Cam for all your mill-turn operations

Today's machines are becoming increasingly complex. They are capable of dealing with both milling and turning operations. Increasingly a powerful CAM software is needed to deal with the multiple tool turrets, holding fixtures and the complex machine kinematics.

TopSolid'Cam is an integrated Cam software for the manufacture of machined parts which offers a powerful solution for Mill-Turn operations. It offers a unique CAM solution in that it is capable of piloting turning, 2 axes milling, 3 axis milling, 4 & 5 axis continued milling, 4 & 5 axis continued turning, synchronization and complex simulation.

The important attributes of TopSolid'Cam for Mill-Turn operations include the following:

  • Simulation – TopSolid'Cam offers a complete simulation of the machine, tools and all objects relating to the machining operation. As a result of integrating all of the elements of the machining environment such as the machine, the clamps, the stock and the tools, TopSolid'Cam is able to verify all possible interferences from these different elements.
  • Integration – TopSolid'Cam offers a complete integration of 2D, 3D and 5 axis continued milling while working on the same file. As TopSolid 'Cam is capable of managing all of these operations time optimization is guaranteed.
  • Synchronization management – The chronogram option within TopSolid, which allows simultaneous machining operations, manages operations by turrets, spindles or by canals. This guarantees a machining optimization and an equilibrium of the machining workload between the 2 spindles. To minimise cycle times on machines with two tool turrets the time utilisation of the turrets should be equal.
  • Algorithm possibilities – TopSolid'Cam offers a richness of algorithm possibilities for roughing operations, notably suited for the aeronautical domain. TopSolid'Cam offers specific machining solutions for the aeronautical industry, such as undercut machining in Z level which respect the fragility of the part to be machined.
  • Infinite axes management – TopSolid'Cam can manage an infinite number of axes. This means that TopSolid'Cam can pilot the most modern, high-tech machines

TopSolid'Cam increasingly supports the use of the most complex multi-task machines such as the Mazak Integrex, WFL MXX, Takisawa TMM, Okuma MacTurn, MoriSeiki MT3000, etc. Missler Software is committed to piloting the most complex machines and is therefore in the process of creating post-processors and establishing close ties with the best-known machine manufacturers.

TopSolid design competition

Over the past number of years Missler Software has held an annual design contest among its French newsletter readers. The aim of the competition is to select the best entries in the categories design, wood making and sheet metal - of products designed using TopSolid, of course. This year's winners have just been announced:

  • Design – Open air playground equipment
The winning project has been created by the company Synchroncity who manufactures open air equipment for playgrounds, campings, beaches, etc. The winning project is an outdoor toy made in plastic, stainless steel and wood panels which has been completely designed using TopSolid

  • Wood Making – Childrens bed
The winning project has been designed and manufactured by the company TIB who works in the hotel and buildings sectors (interior design and furniture making)

  • Sheet Metal project – The winning project is from the company Giansanti who designs and manufactures oil tanks. The winning project is 32 metres high, made of aluminium and has been designed using TopSolid'Design and TopSolid'Fold

Next year the design project will be open to both French and International newsletter readers. Further information on the rules of the project and the prizes to be won will be available in January.

Customer of the month: Roelofs Parts BV

Equipped with 1 TopSolid'Design and 2 TopSolid'Cam, Roelofs Parts BV designs and manufactures spare parts for older sports and racing cars.

According to Piet Roelofs: “Choosing the software for this venture was obviously a crucial decision. We looked at all the big names and in the end we choose TopSolid. It was and still is the only software which provides a fully integrated solution from design right through to manufacture. In addition its highly sophisticated simulation functions allows us to produce first time right.”

TopSolid Tip of the month: TopSolid'Cam and turret equipping

You are a TopSolid operator and you would like some tips on what your software is capable of doing. Each newsletter will include a highlight of the month accompanied by an avi of a TopSolid module.
This month take a look at TopSolid'Cam turret equipping function.

Click below to start the demonstration:

Video commentary

In turning operations equipping the turret with certain tools can be a tiresome and fastidious task - especially if you have already done it for programming an earlier part which used the same tools. TopSolid'Cam offers a very practical solution whereby tools already present in the tool shop of one machine can be "copied" to the tool shop of another machine. In this way you save your know-how and greatly facilitate your working processes!

EuroMold 2005

Missler Software and three of its German resellers AQS, ISK and Moldtech were present at this year's EuroMold fair in Frankfurt, Germany.

TopSolid'Mold 2006 was officially launched on EuroMold with many new functionalities to enable quicker design times being presented to various German and international visitors. The major improvements of the new version highlighted during the fair were: preliminary design mode, one-click kinematics, cooling system and parting line improvements.

During the show Missler Software organised a draw for all visitors. We are happy to congratulate Rudolf Sageder from the company Duo-Design GmbH who won the first prize, a weekend trip to Paris!

Duo-Design is specialised in industrial design and currently uses two TopSolid'Design licences. The company is principally involved in interior design and the design and manufacture of toys.
