The JLC motorbike team, sponsored by Missler Software, finished in 10th place in the prestigious 24h Bol d'Or Magny Cours, France the 16th and 17th of September last. Composed of 3 drivers, 7 mechanics and a team leader, JLC is a well-reputed private French motorbike team having already established a strong reputation in Europe. The team recently participated in the Oschersleben 24H endurance race in Germany. More than 60 European teams participated in this official endurance race, which is ranked in the world championships.

So what is the link between Missler Software and the team JLC? TopSolid and TopSolid’Cam have in fact been used in the production of various parts of the motorbike used by the team. JLC is the only team in the Endurance Championships using such a prototype bike with a very innovative and promisingly shock absorber system. This system has been invented and developed by the JLC team.

We will no doubt be hearing more from this exceptional team in the near future.

The month of September has seen Emo, a leading metalworking trade fair worldwide, take place in Hannover, Germany. Missler Software participated with 4 of its resellers AQS, ISK, Moldtech and NC Data. With an important international panel of visitors Emo represents a key opportunity to meet existing clients, machine tool manufacturers and of course prospective customers.

TopSolid’Cam, the integrated CAD/CAM software for the manufacturing of machined parts was exhibited by Missler Software. A preview of new version, TopSolid’Cam 2006, was presented to the press and visitors. Based on the automatic recognition of topological properties, TopSolid’Cam identifies individual shapes and can thus suggest the best machining method to use. Machine simulation, collision check, spindle synchronization, raw part updating and visualization of material removal are important elements of TopSolid’Cam for tool path programming. TopSolid’Cam 2006 will include important improvements for production machining – especially for the mold making and aeronautical domains. The new version will be released at the end of this year. The integrated TopSolid CAD/CAM solution is more often than not associated with mechanical engineering and machining. It is of course a multi-sector software offering tailored solutions for such fields as mechanical engineering, sheet metal, tool making, wood …and more recently the ship building sector. TopSolid’Design and TopSolid’Wood together with the CAM solutions TopSolid’Cam, TopSolid’WoodCam and TopSolid’PunchCut offer an integrated solution for the production of boats.

Missler Software has recently participated at the following leading nautical trade fairs:

• The Grand Pavois: 7-12 September, La Rochelle, France.
• The Monaco Yacht Show: 21-24 September.
  TopSolid clients Guillaume Kruyskamp, Judel & Vrolijk, THG and Vismara Yacht Design were also present at this fair.

Missler Software Italy will participate at Alumotive: 20-22 October, Modena, Italy. The renowned TopSolid clients Vismara Yacht Design and Picco Yacht Design will intervene in TopSolid presentations during the fair.

Increasingly boat designers are converting to 3D CAD systems as collision detection is now a key factor in the design of increasingly complex and compact boats. This will obviously favour 3D CAD/CAM editors in general. TopSolid, however, has an advantage over the solutions offered by many competitors: Technically, it is a very attractive solution for boat designers for the following reasons:

• Powerful importation and recuperation of data
• Strong geometrical tools which allow free positioning in space
• Wood and sheet metal solutions available thereby offering a complete CAD solution (both the interior and exterior of the boat can de designed using TopSolid)
• Comprehensive library of marine components – this library is currently being enriched with various suppliers
• TopSolid’PDM which manages large assemblies such as boats containing many components
• A solid experience in the domain which has matured over the years

TopSolid is also used by Legrand in Chile, France and Portugal. Equipped with 14 TopSolid’Pro, 11 TopSolid’Cam, 2 TopSolid’Wire and 1 TopSolid’Electrode and more recently TopSolid’Pdm a complete integration between design, manufacturing and data management is achieved thanks to TopSolid.

You are a TopSolid operator and you want some tips on what your software is capable of doing. Each newsletter will include a highlight of the month accompanied by an avi of a TopSolid module.
This month take a look at TopSolid’Cam’s processes:

Video commentary
TopSolid'Cam enables the creation and the use of machining cycles which regroup a variable number of elementary operations better known as « processes » By default, these processes are automatically linked to the features for which they were defined. To this effect, automatic processes for creating threaded holes, machining pockets, etc. exist.

In some cases it is necessary to be able to use a process while omitting one or several of its operations. In order to avoid duplicating a process which just responds to occasional needs the “launch configuration” allows the operator not to carry out some of the operations by simply choosing those not required. This is carried out when the process is launched. The process remains intact and TopSolid’Cam just carries out the part of the process selected by the operator.
